The Ukiyo vases are meticulously handcrafted by Marthine Spinnangr using a white stoneware clay before being finished with three different glazes: a glossy white, a matte white, and a caramel-coloured glaze. This combination captures a unique and beautiful interplay of textures and tones on the surface.
The design of the vases is based on a morphed design process inspired by human poses, giving each piece an organic, evocative form. The name Ukiyo is Japanese, referring to the "floating world" and the aesthetic appreciation of the enjoyment and ephemeral pleasures of life.
As each piece is individually hand-formed by Marthine Spinnangr, every Ukiyo vase is entirely unique, ensuring no two are exactly alike.
